Requested move 21 November 2014[edit]

I have absolutely no idea why this article was moved to Chievo Verona. A simple search of the Serie A website legaseriea.it as well as the Chievo website shows that the proper form is ChievoVerona, one word. Obviously therefore I propose that it be changed back. Italia2006 (talk) 23:48, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

@Italia2006:The club's official website shows it without a space as provided by Matthew_hk above... I don't know why this page was moved either... it should be moved back. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 23:01, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Wow I forgot about this. Italia2006 (talk) 23:47, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
@Italia2006: haha, well, something should still be done about this. Maybe I'll formally request a move. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 23:50, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
@Vaselineeeeeeee: I'd support that (well, obviously). Italia2006 (talk) 23:52, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

@Italia2006: I didn't even have to request a move, I tried it myself and it wasn't blocked. We should probably move its season articles and change some links to without the space, but maybe lets wait a couple days to see if anyone opposes this? But I mean, it is their official name according to their website. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 00:35, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

@Vaselineeeeeeee: I'd wait a few days. I noticed once that this page goes back and forth for some reason. Let's not change anything except the move as yet. Italia2006 (talk) 01:06, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@Italia2006: Agreed. I hope no one challenges it, as you cannot argue with the facts. But yes, let's wait it out a bit. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:26, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@Vaselineeeeeeee: Let's give this til Friday and then I say we go ham and do a full conversion of every Chievo-related article. Italia2006 (talk) 16:32, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

@Italia2006: Sounds like a plan. Obviously the first to tackle are Chievo's season articles, but there is also a cool feature to the left of articles under tools 'what links here' which would be useful in knowing where links to Chievo's page are. There are a bunch of pages that link to Chievo, but I doubt we will be able to do it for all of them. It's like when Eder (Italian footballer) was moved; there are undoubtedly links to his page that use the old article name. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:40, 15 August 2016 (UTC)@Italia2006: Should we start now? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:17, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

@Vaselineeeeeeee: Sure. Italia2006 (talk) 03:38, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Chievo (4,500 inhabitants) is a frazione of Verona located to the west of the city, around 4 kilometres (2 miles) from the historic city centre, on the shores of the river Adige.

It is best known for its football team, A.C. ChievoVerona, which competes in the second tier of Italian professional football, Serie B.

History[edit]

The name came from the Latin 'clivium mantici' which means 'the hill of the magic wood'. Pastoral and farming activities date back to pre-Roman Celtic settlers. Placed on the shores of the river Adige the early inhabitants established a port, some mills and a water-powered saw on the river. Pipin, son of Charles, gifted the entire zone to the monastery of St. Procolo, near S. Zeno in Verona. In the 12th century Chievo had a church, a hospital and a stronghold in which Federico Barbarossa spent some nights. The Corte Bionde is the best preserved medieval building. Around 1450 the entire village was moved about 100 metres (328 ft) nearer to the city where the climate was healthier and vegetation more gorgeous. The actual parish church with a reliquary was built at that time. In 1892 the ten church bells were cast, and are still rung today in the style of the Veronese bellringing art.

Points of interest[edit]

  • Forte Chievo: polygonal fort built between 1850 and 1852 by the Austrians as part of Verona's defensive system.
  • Villa Pellegrini Marioni Pullè: 17th–18th century villa; the walls of its estate fence the western side of Chievo's main square.[1]

Nowadays it is owned by INPS (Italian national social security institute) and in a state of disrepair.

  • Ponte diga del Chievo: dam and footbridge over the river Adige, built in the 1920s.
